About Our Church

The first Masses celebrated in Warner Robins were held at the USO Hall on an altar made from stacked Coke crates and boards. On September 23, 1945, in the building we now know as the "Parish Hall," the first Mass of Sacred Heart Parish in Warner Robins was celebrated in our church by our founding Pastor, Rev. Harold Gaudin, S.J. In addition to serving as the church, this building also housed the church offices, the social hall, and the pastor's residence. The original church could seat around 200 people.

In September 1955, Sacred Heart School started and in 1956 the Presentation Sisters arrived from Ireland to take charge of the school. On February 8, 1962, the second Sanctuary was dedicated to handle our growing number of parishioners. It seated 500 people.

About our Priests

Father FredOn May 25, 1968, Deacon Frederick J. Nijem, Jr., entered the brand-new Saint John the Evangelist Church in Valdosta, to become the first priest ever ordained there. The church's pastor, Father Thomas J. Payne, waived the privilege of celebrating the first Mass in his new church, commenting, "I think it's the most appropriate thing that could happen to a new church-to launch a new priest. We broke ground last July with this in mind."

Updates from the Church

During advent we were crying out, "Come, Lord Jesus." It was a time of waiting and watching. Now in the Christmas season it is God who cries out come and see; come to my Son who shares your humanity that you might share his divinity; come and see that he can be born in a stable, and then he can surely be born in the poverty of your heart. Come and see the self-emptying of God that we might be filled with grace and life. The baby's cry grows into an adult voice that announces that the Kingdom is here. The wood of the feeding trough becomes the wood of the cross. The glory of God announced by angels to the shepherds becomes an announcement over an empty tomb- He is risen.

Jesus tells us in the Gospel "Blessed are the eyes which see what you see and blessed are the ears which hear what you hear, for I tell you that many prophets and kings wanted to see what you see and never saw it, to hear what you hear and never heard it," Luke 10:23-24. What is it that we see and hear? We see and hear Jesus, God's self-revelation.

Bulletin Article for 21 Dec 2014

Brothers and Sisters,

Our Gospel reading each of the last two weeks told us different versions of the same basic story. We hear of the work of John the Baptist in the River Jordan. John was calling people to repentance and proclaiming the need for men to prepare for the coming of the Christ. And he was baptizing them with water.

Christmas is growing nearer each day. Some may say, "We only have eleven more shopping days", where others will say, "We only have eleven more days to prepare for the celebration of Christ's birth". Needless to say, this is different for each individual, and the Church knows this. Therefore the Church uses this season of Advent to help us prepare to celebrate this joyous event.
